Uganda is a country full of potential, yet there is a lot of poverty. This is partly because of lack of money or resources. But even more than that, it’s due to a poor mindset: Many people believe that they can’t change anything without the orders of a leader (or a “white savior”). On top of that, many people are officially “Christians”, but their faith isn’t deeply rooted – which leads to problems with hypocrisy and false teachings.
I will be working at the bible school “YWAM Arua” in northern Uganda. By teaching practical workshops (such as toy making, bible studies, planting a vegetable garden…), I want to lead people to a deeper relationship with God and a discovery of their own creativity: They are not just victims, they get to develop their own ideas to fight poverty. God isn’t just a god for heaven, but he also transforms our world here and now.
About me: I’m the kind of person who likes as much as possible to make gifts rather than buy them. And I love taking complicated topics and making them easy to understand. Over the years, I studied art, then ev. theology, did several internships in East Africa, and published a book (German “Weltgestalter” with SCM publishing: how we can live out the Gospel in everyday life, including climate change, fighting poverty etc.). When I’m not working, I’m probably building something out of recycled materials or learning something about other cultures/languages.
