This stands for Kisaakye Child Empowerment and Rehabilitation Organisation. We cooperate with four other volunteers towards the aim that the society is able to assume responsibility for children with handicaps themselves.
1. Inclusive primary school Mount Zion
Mount Zion School is a school for healthy children as well as children with handicaps. They have lessons in sign language, training in daily life activities (washing, shopping, cooking etc.) as training in vocational skills like sewing or making jewelry. We want to expand this area into a workshop for people with handicaps. We have started a sponsorship program, and there is a boarding school here. The way to the school is often difficult, in particular for children with handicaps. Our goal is that all children in our program (350) will attend the school. This year, before Christmas, we will start with a kids camp in order to convey biblical values and self-esteem.
2. Therapy Center
Clients bring new children to our therapy center, and we provide them with aids (wheelchairs etc.). We also distribute a food supplemental mash for malnourished children, and medication for epilepsy. In addition, we are working at a malaria and epilepsy awareness program and nourishing training. The long-term goal is a rehabilitation center with a pharmacy, that is financially self-sufficient.
3. Home visits
In order to reach our vision, we have to reach the families directly in order to counsel them, encourage them and in order to involve them in their children’s therapy. On purpose, we do no take the children out of their families.
1. Emotional:
Families should be filled with love for these children. Children should be strengthened in their self-esteem.
2. Physical:
Regular therapy and physical hygiene through the family and therapists.
3. Spritual:
Through prayer and the teaching of biblical values, the attitudes towards these children should change from negative to positive.
