We are Peter and Katharina de Graaf, married since 2009. By now we are the proud parents of three kids. Our son Joël was born in 2013 in Holland and our daughters Cora (2016) and Leni (2018) were born in Greenland.

In 2006 Peter has been in Greenland to do short term missionairy work (with YWAM). The way the Gospel touched the people created a desire in him to return to Greenland in the future. The work had just begun, and further discipleship was very neccessary.
In 2011 we realized that God called us to work in advancing His kingdom in Eastgreenland.

In September 2014 we moved to Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, where we tasted a little bit of culture, language and the existing Christian work on the westcoast. End of January 2015 we arrived to the village of Tasiilaq, on the Eastcoast, where we are working. At first glance Tasiilaq seems to be an idyllic village with its colourful houses. But nothing is further from the truth. Alcoholism, domestic violance and abuse are a daily occurrence and the suicide rate is among the highest in the world. In this darkness Gods Light begins to shine. We are amazed to see how hungry the people here are for God and how He in return meets their hunger and gives new life. Helping people to grow in this new life with God and each other is the main focus of our work. We do this through relationship as well as organized activities. Biweekly we have a sunday service and during the week we offer a small bibleschool. Counseling and evangelistic meetings are also part of our work.

It is important to us to understand the people we live amongst and to be able to reach them in their heart language. Therefore we try to learn East-Greenlandic.

Our vision is to connect people in a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ and then to help them grow in this relationship. By getting to know God better they will experience in their daily life all the wonderful things God has prepared for them and be able to share His life with others as well.

A summary of this can be found in Ephesians 4:12 – “Equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ”.

When the body of Christ is build up it will impact and change the society here in Tasiilaq, which is traumatized in many ways.

Mission house Tasiilaq – house of peace

The house of peace: a place where Gods love shines among the East-Greenlanders.

East-Greenland is marked by an astonishingly beautiful nature and is one of the most isolated places of the world. It is also a place where people struggle with huge social problems and live without God in deep darkness. Here „at the ends of the earth“ Gods love needs to touch people in word and deed so that Gods kingdom becomes visible. The house of peace was build in 2020 and provides the missing facility for this work.

The building offers a meeting place for Sunday services as well as for small groups, childrens work, counseling, seminars and workshops.  Also community activities can be offered here that will bring outsiders in touch with the message of the saving love of Christ.

All these activities serve to bring people into relationship with God and each other. This creates hope! People learn to live in the new life that Christ has made possible. Ultimately this will lead to fundamental change in the paralyzed society of East-Greenland.

Would you consider supporting the house of peace financially?

More information about what is happening in the house of peace can be found in the newsletters of Peter and Katharina de Graaf (see form above).
