Since 2002, I have been in the country of Mozambique as a nurse/missionary.
The journey with God began in Maputo in the children’s center “Iris Ministries” and also brought me for one and a half years to a ministry with young prostitutes in Maputo. In 2006, I moved to the center of the country, close to Gondola/Chimoio in the province Manica.
Since 2007, I have been working with “Africa 180”, a local NGO in the feeding program for babies. Many of these children are HIV positive since their mothers are sick with Aids – or the children are brought up by other caretakers, since their mothers died during childbirth. These babies as well as malnourished or disabled children are the focus of my work. They receive dried milk powder or sugar and oil as well as corn and beans, depending on their health condition, for about two years. In addition to this, I am active in educational work as well as hospital or home visits.
Among other things, I desire to work with disabled children:
Many times, they are considered “unproductive” but an “additional work” that has to be taken care of completely, or also as the result of a curse. Often they suffer a lot, starve or are killed. Physiotherapy and occupational therapy are still underdeveloped or are not available at all.
I desire a therapeutic work with children and horses. In the long run, I would like to offer a house or a farm as protected zone for good experiences, joy, playing, freedom and stimulation of motor skills, senses, children’s own resources, creativity, as well as for encouragement and support for the caregivers.
I am curious where God will bring me with this.
